Vital Flow.Introduction

In ancient China, a long list of etiquette guidelines were devised to encourage people to behave in an appropriate manner. Men and women were forbidden to touch each other, even when giving or receiving an item. This discreet attitude extended to most areas of everyday life, including medicine. For example, the underlying principles of medicine were described figuratively, as a metaphor, which alluded to the meaning; the human body and its anatomical structure and physiological function was referred to as a ‘grand palace’.

The buildings in the grand palaces were always constructed symmetrically, along a central south to north axis. However, perfect symmetry of every aspect of the internal design could not always be completely achieved. For example, wells could only be position within the palace according to where there was an underground water source.

Like the palaces, many parts of the human body are symmetrical (skeleton and skeletal muscles, kidneys, ovaries, testes etc.), and some are positioned asymmetrically (heart, liver, gallbladder etc.)

In life, the Lord and his servants lived within the palace, where the Lord led a comfortable life, while his servants, accommodating the Lord’s needs, tended to the smooth running of the palaces domestic and social infrastructure, and to it’s defenses.

Blood circulation in the human body was metaphorically interpreted as the daily life in the palace. If the servants did not fulfill their duties, if they did not conform to what was required of them, then the smooth running of the palace infrastructure suffered; the palace would not remain clean, efficient and ordered; dirt would accumulate, roles would be left incomplete, chaos and disharmony would ensue. Likewise, in the body, if the circulation does not flow smoothly, nutrition distribution is impeded, waste disposal is inefficient, and immunity is compromised; the body becomes sluggish, even toxic, and its ability to fight off invading microbes is weakened. In such circumstances, the Lord of the palace would suffer discomfort and suboptimal wellbeing as a consequence.

To remedy this disharmony, or ‘di-ease’, a combination of Sanjan (伸引) (stretch and guide) and Teoigunggwohyut (推宮過血) (push-palace-past-blood) was applied to ease and help alleviate the Lord's discomfort.

San-jan (stretch-guide) is a mind-body stretching exercise that combines meditation, breath control, and body movements to provide incentives to all ‘servants’ to work diligently. Using the breath to engage the mind with the body, this exercise focuses on communication and flexibility, allowing the ‘servants’ to strengthen their connections with each other and revive and support their roles; mediation and exercise aids the ‘servants’ to gently build up their strength to optimum capacity so they can fulfill their roles efficiently.

Teoi-gung-gwo-hyut (push-palace-pass-blood) is a decongestive therapy. Toei-gung is a percussion technique, which reduces redundancy, or inefficiency, and loosens the accumulated ‘filth’ (toxins, waste and debris) by gently knocking at some of the buildings in the palace. All ‘servants’ are instructed to remove the ‘filth’ in a way that is appropriate to requirement. This is known as Gwo-hyut. This therapy focuses on precision and the rule of procedure. 3 taels (4 ounces or 11 grams) of kneading pressure is applied to knock, to shift, the accumulated ‘filth’ in an appropriate direction, with just sufficient force to avoid damaging the structure of the smaller buildings, while at the same time supervising and urging all the ‘servants’ to diligently carry and dump the load in the right places.

Metaphorically, when the small buildings are managed well and daily life in the palace is appropriately undertaken, the Lord maintains his health and wellbeing and recovers quickly from disturbance; thus, equilibrium of mind-body-spirit and physiological homeostasis is maintained.

Sanjan(伸引)とTeoigunggwohyut(推宮過血)の組み合わせにより、王の不快感を軽減することができます。

これはGwo-hyut(血液循環の向上)のことです。
